Zane Hodges (1933-2008)

November 26th, 2008 by James Grant

Daniel Wallace writes that Zane Hodges, a long time professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, died over the weekend. Hodges was 75 years old. I first heard of Zane Hodges during the controversy over “Lordship Salvation.” He argued for a view of salvation that did not necessarily include perseverance in faith.

Wallace was both a student and colleague of Hodges, so he provides a helpful perspective on someone who was in the middle of one of the significant battles in modern evangelicalism (regarding the “Lordship Salvation” controversy). Given that I disagree with Hodges on several points, I was impressed with S. Lewis Johnson’s relationship to him. In spite of strong disagreements over doctrinal matters, there was a mutual respect between them. Read Wallace’s whole post here.
